Cammy Day’s letter to the Evening News

Dear Editor,

As the city joins together in our plight against Coronavirus, I wanted to put on record the city’s thanks to all the trade unions and their membership, working daily with COSLA (Convention of Scottish Local Authorities) Scottish Government and the City of Edinburgh Council.

Key issues around health and safety, supply of PPE and generally keeping our limited workforce safe, are daily challenges that we are all too aware of.

The members of Unite, Unison and the EIS, primarily representing council staff in a range of services including the care of our older people, the GMB and USDAW supporting the many workers ensuring we have food to eat and ensuring shops are open early for key workers and vulnerable people, Community Union supporting many third sector projects providing support and resources in neighbourhoods across the city.

Of course, there are also non trade union members working hard to keep us going and they have our gratitude and support as well.

All of them working together with employers to keep our Great City going during the most challenging times of our lives.

Lastly, we will never forget our hospital and medical staff, RCN and other union members saving lives every day!
